Apart from its regular academic curriculum Dr. BhupenHazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute endeavors in holistic development of the students. Keeping that view in mind DBHRGFTI organizes different types of film festivals, workshops & seminars from time to time. It not only enriches the students intellectually and aesthetically but also provides a platform for the cine goers of Guwahati to get exposed to meaningful films.

GIFF, Guwahati International Film Festival, is being organized by Jyoti Chitraban (Film Studio) Society with the support of State Government of Assam, India in association with Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute. The festival will take place at Guwahati from 28th October-2nd November 2017 at two locations: Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra and Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio.

Documentary film Festival:

The cine goers of Guwahati got the rarest opportunity to watch some of the classic documentaries at 1st Guwahati International Documentary Film Festival jointly organized by Dr. BhupenHazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute and Films Division of India at JyotiChitraban, Guwahati, from 21st to 24th June, 2017. The festival was, in true sense, of international standards on the basis of the films screened in the festival. In total 27 Nos. of documentary and short films were screened in the festival. The package for the festival were carefully chosen from the best of the Indian & international collections. A small package of Assamese documentaries was also inducted in the festival. The presence of renowned Indian film personalities like JahnuBaruah, GirishKasaravalli& Dr. Jabbar Patel in the festival, especially the master classes conducted by GirishKasaravalli& Dr. Jabbar Patel during the festival made the festival more meaningful. Along with the festival, Films Division arranged a small selling point of documentaries where the film goers could buy the films of their choices. His Excellency, the Governor of Assam ShriBanwarilalPurohit inaugurated the festival.Among the other dignitaries like the Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Assam ShriV.B. Pyarelal, Chairman of JyotiChitraban (Film Studio) Society ShriPabitraMargherita, Director General of Films Division ShriManish Desai, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Cultural Affairs ShriPreetomSaikia& Director Administration of Films Division Ms. Swati Pandewereresent there.Ms. MonitaBorgohain, the Director of Dr. BhupenHazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute, delivered her welcome address and thanked Films Division for organizing the festival at Guwahati and expressed her desire to make it a yearly cultural event of DBHRGFTI.

Film maker Bikas Desai, an alumnus of FTI Pune, visited Dr. BhupenHazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute and interacted with the Director, faculty members and students of the institute on 9th May, 2017. He expressed his willingness to conduct week long film making workshops with the students of DBHRGFTI in the near future.

Teacher Training Workshop on "E-Learning: Challenges and Opportunities"

In collaboration with Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) & British Council, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) conducted a day long Teacher Trainingworkshop on "E-Learning: Challenges and Opportunities" at Dr. BhupenHazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute (DBHRGFTI) on 3rd May, 2017. Representing various technical institutions of North-Eastern States 58 Nos. of participants took part in the workshop. Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Assam Shri V. B. Pyarelal, Commissioner-Secretary of Cultural Affairs DepartmentShriPreetomSaikia& Secretary of Higher Education Department Ms. Krishna Gohain was present in the inaugural meeting of the workshop on behalf of Govt. of Assam.  Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of AICTE, Mr. VinaySheelOberoi Rt. Secretary of MHRD, Dr. ParulGoha from British Council etc. was present in the meeting and delivered valuable speeches. On behalf of AICTE, Dr. Harpreet Singh Manna, Director of AICTE, has conducted the workshop.  Mrs. MonitaBorgohain, the Director of DBHRGFTI, has welcomed all the dignitaries to the institute and thanked AICTE for holding the workshop at DBHRGFTI.
